Dr. Kano opened his school, the Kodokan in Tokyo, Japan. From there, Judo grew to become an international sport, with about 187 national federations currently participating in international competition. An international governing body (the International Judo Federation) was created in 1952. And in 1964, Judo became an official Olympic sport. history of Derry judo club The Derry Judo Club, first known as the Hood Judo Club was founded in 1971 by Mr. Chris Veziris, a science teacher at the Gilbert H.
